ATTENTION SUPPORTERS....
Hoosier Musical Productions is in trouble, and needs your help. Last April, to close out our 2009-2010
season, we mounted a production of the Elton John & Tim Rice musical AIDA. The performances all took place
in Alumni Hall, located within the Indiana Memorial Union. Much to our
surprise and dismay, the production ended up costing us over 48% more than any other musical
we have ever produced in the past. The majority of these expenses came from the
venue rental, (i.e. the various 'extra' costs that came along with it--virtually
all of which were not added to our bill until after the production had closed). The bottom line is this: a lot of the charges were never spoken of until after the fact, thus making them impossible to plan for or to take into account when making our
show budget.
Within the past year and a half, we at Hoosier Musicals have managed to successfully produce an astounding six shows, each one fully staged and polished with audio
enhancement, costumes, lighting design, sets, and some of the best sounding pit
orchestras any musical director could ever hope for. When it comes to the
number of opportunities for students to get involved within the musical theatre
genre, that is the equivalent of those provided by the IU Theatre & Drama
department over a three-year period. We have maintained our mission of
providing leadership and performance opportunities in high quality musical
theatre productions to any and all IU students, regardless of their field of
study.
Since this organizations inception in the Fall of 2008, we have worked
tirelessly to raise money and earn financial support from the community so that
we could grow and eventually thrive. Up until two months ago, we were well on
our way, and while I am still very proud of the work we have done, the
aforementioned financial situation we are currently facing is like nothing we
have ever dealt with before. Without help from the community, it could mean the
end of Hoosier Musical Productions for good.
Enclosed is a self-addressed envelope with postage for your

making a donation today and helping us keep our hard work and passion from
going to waste. Checks can be made out directly to Hoosier Musical Productions,
or can be made online by visiting our website at www.HoosierMusicals.com. In
the spirit of encouraging our community to enjoy the benefits of a cultured
life, we are asking for your help. For our vision of doing our part to enrich,
inspire, challenge and expand the Bloomington community through the arts to
have been in vain would in itself truly be a tragedy.
